Penny Gump & Her Emmy-The Real Story
I am officially the Forest Gump of this town. I know it sounds like a joke but I won an Emmy award this past Sunday night for being a crazy neighbor.
I didn’t even know they gave out crazy neighbor awards! Really it was for acting as field producer for my wonderful neighbor, Bill Evans, who tore his achilles tendon last summer. He is the weatherman for WABC (and the best weatherman on TV in my unbiased opinion plus I love his wife Dana) and was told he could either go on disability or use his vacation time or do the show from home but the sticking point was that ABC couldn’t spare a producer for the segments. Enter Penny Gump.Pick me! Pick me! I love this sh__! It was like getting to help work the red velvet rope of the best early-bird buffet in town! I helped him since he was immobile and was pretty much stuck in a lawn chair in his backyard for the early morning newscast. I set up a week of shows for him, since I am up at 5am most days anyway, not that I want to get up, I just can’t sleep.
And we won.
For the best On-Camera Weatherman/Anchorman category. The nomination was a compilation from the week’s shows called “Pros Play Hurt: The Weather From My Backyard.”
Like Forest always says, Life is a box of Chocolates.
